SCIP-School Community Intervention Program

School Community Intervention Program

ADHD Diagnosis and Treatment Presentation

WHAT IS SCIP?

SCIP refers to the School Community Intervention Program.  This four-component program to assist students experiencing difficulty in the learning environment was developed jointly by representatives from the community and Lincoln Public Schools.  It is currently sponsored by the Lincoln Public School system; Lincoln Medical Education Partnership (LMEP); United Way of Lincoln and Lancaster County; Region V Systems; and the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Addiction Services.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF SCIP?

The purpose of SCIP is threefold:

  1. To identify students exhibiting high risk behaviors which interfere with their ability to learn. These behaviors may or may not be related to the use of alcohol and/or other drugs.
  2. To provide alternative approaches in helping students deal with these problems, and
  3. To provide a support system for students and parents to address problem areas both within and outside the school setting.

HOW DOES SCIP ASSIST STUDENTS?

The program has four (4) components, each of which assists students.
  1. IDENTIFICATION of students who exhibit problematic behavior.
  2. INTERVENTION with the student, parents, and a school representative from the SCIP Team to describe the problem behavior and to seek solutions and explore options which will increase the student≠s chance of being successful in school.
  3. REFERRAL to a community agency tailored to youth and families.
  4. STUDENT SUPPORT to assist students in the school environment. The goal of individual and group support is to aid the recovery process of the student.
