The 3:10 Rule
One of our main concerns is the safety of our students here at Dawes
Middle School. Therefore, for security reasons the 3:10 rule will
continue to exist this year. Students will no longer be able to
wait outside of the school building after school for their ride to
arrive after 3:10 p.m. We do not have supervision outside after
that time. At 3:10 p.m. all students still waiting for rides will
wait inside the building in a room where they may do homework or sit
quietly until their ride arrives. We would prefer that parents
come into the office to pick up their children after 3:10 p.m.
Students will not be allowed to come back on school property once they
leave. On several occasions I have noticed that in order to not
have to wait in the building, student, with parent approval, wait for
rides about a block either to the east or west of school out of sight
of administration. I want to caution parents to the fact this is
an unsafe practice because there is not adult supervision at these
spots. Many times several students are there who are not waiting
for rides. This is an opportunity for something to happen.
We as a school assume no responsibility for incidents that occur as a
result of students not waiting for rides in the designated area.
Students are not to be in the building or on school property after 3:10.
The following are approved activities for students to be here after 3:10:
- If you are in a CLC activity.
- If you are participating in a sport where the coach is present.
- If you are serving time in the ISS Room.
- If you are serving time in the Tardy Room.
- If you are with a teacher for an activity (i.e. Band, Chorus, Student Council, etc.), or doing work in their classroom.
If it is 3:10 and you are waiting for a ride, you need to go to the ISS
room and watch for your ride to arrive. Students who are walking
or riding their bike home need to be off school property by 3:10.
