Hello, Dawes Families!
As many of you know our Winter Dance is this Friday, December 8th. The theme of the dance is Bizzard Bash (theme colors are blue and white)! Our students are very excited to get down and boogie at the end of the week.
Student Council has worked very hard to plan and coordinate this exciting event, and it is nearly upon us! We wanted to take this opportunity to communicate a few important details about the event.
When is the dance? FRIDAY, DECEMBER 8th 3:00 – 5:00 PM. If you pick up your student(s), and they would like to attend the dance, be sure to plan accordingly. We planned our dance to begin immediately after the school day so the event would not inconvenience parents that would need to make multiple trips to and from Dawes. If you are picking up your student, plan to pick them up promptly at 5:00 pm!
How much are tickets? Tickets will be $3 for a ticket for the dance, $5 for a ticket + slice of pizza and a soda. The tickets will be sold during our lunch times this week, as well as before and after school in the commons area. We intentionally kept ticket prices low this year to ensure that cost would not be an obstacle to students attending the event. The purpose is not to profit from these sales. The ticket sales will go to support Student Council and the cost of the event. (An additional two dollars will be added if the student purchases the ticket at the door rather than purchasing it in advance. Encourage your student to purchase their ticket in advance.) Your student must bring their ticket to be admitted into the dance.
Will there be food (dinner) served? Student Council will be selling Pizza and Soda. Pizza will be $1 a slice and Soda will also be $1. Our Dawes Step Team will also be selling candy at the dance to raise funds for their uniforms. Please help us support their awesome team!
Is there a dress code? At an event such as this, students often want to dress their best and look great for the party, and that is something we encourage. Dawes Middle School believes in dressing for success. What our students wear is a reflection of who they are and how they choose to express themselves. That being said, all students will be expected to follow the school dress code while attending the event. Students who are not dressed accordingly (wearing hats, skirts and shorts that are not at an appropriate length, shirts that are not at an appropriate length, shirts that carry inappropriate symbols or messages) will be asked to change or not be admitted to the dance.
What about my students personal items (backpacks, supplies, etc.)? Students will be asked to leave these things in their locker and pick them up at the end of the dance. We are taking precautions this year to ensure that all students personal property is protected and supervised. If your student chooses to not lock up their personal items, Dawes is not responsible for lost or stolen property.
Please encourage your students to attend this event! It will be a fun and unforgettable experience!
