Today is Patriot Day.  On September 11 or Patriot Day, we pause to remember a day that changed our country forever. While many of you were not yet born, it is a day to honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Virginia, and on Flight 93 in Pennsylvania.

The official 9/11 Memorial ceremony in New York City observes a specific set of six moments of silence throughout the day. These moments are not random; they mark the exact times of the key events as they unfolded:

  • The time the first plane struck the North Tower.

  • The time the second plane struck the South Tower.

  • The time Flight 77 struck the Pentagon.

  • The time the South Tower collapsed.

  • The time Flight 93 crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

  • The time the North Tower collapsed.

On this day, we honor the brave first responders and countless heroes who risked everything to help others. Today is a reminder of the importance of community, service, and unity. Let’s take 6 seconds of silence to reflect and remember. Thank you.

  • Now is the time to put away your phone in a locked locker or chromebook bag. They do not belong in your pockets or your hands.

  •  Please check for any important messages from family members after school on your grade’s announcement boards.  6th grade will be posted at the 6th grade doors while 7th & 8th grade will be posted at the main doors.

  • Everyday counts Diamondbacks!  Being in school everyday and following the Dawes CARE expectations is the best way to graduate on time. We show Courage to do hard things, Accept feedback from others, demonstrate Respect even when we don’t want to, and positively Engage in learning in all your classes.   At Dawes we are kind or quiet; that choice belongs only to you.  Let’s have a great day Diamondbacks!
